The General Assembly of the United Nations on Tuesday, June 5,   elected by acclamation,  Liberia's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, His Excellency Lewis Garseedah Brown, II as Chair of the 4th Committee of the 73rd Session of the UN General Assembly.

My delegation thanks you for convening this open debate on the Protection of Civilians in Armed Conflict, welcomes the Report of the Secretary-General, and thanks the other speakers and contributors for their insights.

As part of consultations for the formulation of the Pro-Poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development, Finance and Development Planning Minister Samuel D. Tweah Jr. has held a series of meetings with top United Nations officials and donors in New York.

Nearly fifteen years after it unanimously adopted Resolution 1509 establishing the 15,000 strong stabilization force for Liberia, the United Nations Security Council on Thursday, April 19, held its final meeting on the situation in the country and renewed its commitment to support the process of peacebuilding and peace sustenance.
